It is not risk-free: swelling, bruising, nodules, asymmetry, migration and infection are all documented, and rare vascular complications are possible.

It can. Lumps or nodules were reported in 4.6% of patients in a published 324-patient audit, and asymmetry in 6.1%; all were managed, for example by moulding, a dissolving enzyme or additional filler. Temporary unevenness in the first days is common while swelling settles.

Hyaluronic acid filler can usually be broken down with an injection of a dissolving enzyme where this is medically appropriate. Reversibility is a genuine advantage of hyaluronic acid over permanent materials, but it is not absolute — sometimes more than one session is needed.

A dissolving enzyme breaks down hyaluronic acid. It is injected to dissolve hyaluronic acid filler, either to correct a lump or asymmetry or to remove the filler altogether, and it is also part of emergency management of rare vascular complications. It does not work on permanent fillers such as PMMA or silicone.

They involve different trade-offs. Hyaluronic acid is injected without surgery, gives a more predictable volume and can usually be dissolved, but it is temporary.
